Podcast Episode #18: Ben Venom

Ben Venom on the Crafty Planner Podcast

Ben Baumgartner (also known as Ben Venom) is a fine artist, currently working with textiles. Meighan O’Toole introduced me to him and I have been fascinated with his perspective since then.

Have you seen his work?

Even if his style does not appeal to your taste, I love that he challenges what people think about punk, motorcycles, sewing, and quilting.

During the podcast, we talk about both his Once Bitten, Twice Shy and Mega Quilts! Here they are:

[twocol_one]Once Bitten, Twice Shy Quilt by Ben Venom[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last] Mega Quilt by Ben Venom[/twocol_one_last] We talk about… everything… how a Gee’s Bend exhibit at the de Young museum influenced his current work in textiles, how he chooses his quilt designs and upcycled materials along with his perspective being an artist exploring different mediums.

As a warning, we cuss in the podcast. I have labeled it explicit. I hope this episode give you the chance to explore Ben’s work and think about the many ways we make assumptions about people everyday.

  3. Lovely interview. Exposes Ben at his core.

As a journalism student, I encourage you to remove your experience/self from the story. It should always about the subject… not the interviewer.
