Since starting a podcast, I have been asked several questions about the technical aspects of creating a podcast along with what happens before, during and after the call. Luckily, my friend Abby Glassenberg of While She Naps has decided to join me for a mini collaboration about podcasting. Today, Abby covers why podcasting is important to her as a listener and producer. You can find that post here. I wanted to show how to subscribe to a podcast via iTunes for Mac/iPhone users or Stitcher for Windows/Android users.
Also, stay tuned because Abby and I interview each other about our podcasts on the next Crafty Planner podcast.
which will be published on Monday, July 13th. Stay tuned! You can find the podcast here.
iTunes (for Mac/iPhone users)
For Mac/iPhone users, iTunes is the universal media storage software. The images below show how to add a podcast using iTunes through a web based interface. (iTunes version 12.1.2 on a MacBook Air.)
Open up iTunes. Here is the main page. Select the “My Podcasts” button as seen in the image on the right side with a red arrow.
Using the search box in the top right hand corner, type in the podcast you would like to add to iTunes.
When you find the podcast you are looking for, you can choose the option of listening to one episode at a time (as seen on the left below) or you can subscribe to the podcast itself and new episodes will automatically be added to iTunes (as seen on the right below).[twocol_one][/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last][/twocol_one_last]
If you choose the second option and subscribe to a podcast, episodes will be added to your playlist. See the example below.
You are done!
Stitcher (for Windows/Android users)
For Windows/Android users, Stitcher is one of the more commonly used applications. I have also used Pocketcasts; however, it is a paid app. Stitcher is free and intuitive to use. The images below show how to add a podcast on a mobile device. (Stitcher version 126.96.36.199675 on a Samsung Note 4.)
You will first need to install the Stitcher app on your phone and sign up for an account.[twocol_one][/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last][/twocol_one_last]
After the app has been installed and you open the app, the front page is the first thing you will see. It will not look exactly as what you see below as it changes daily. Notice the red looking glass icon on the top right side. I have circled the icon in red. This is where you can search for your favorite podcasts.
Enter in the name of the podcast you would like to listen to.
The app will search for the podcast and give you options that fits your description.
When you select the podcast, you have the option to play an individual episode or add the entire podcast to your playlist. If you add the podcast to your playlist, it will automatically update when an episode is added.
After you add the podcast to your playlist, you can access it through the interface on the left hand side. Click on “My Stations” and you will see all of your choices.[twocol_one][/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]
I hope this helps you subscribe to your favorite podcasts! Let me know if you have any questions.
