Almost two years ago, I volunteered for the Modern Quilt Guild’s Governance Committee led by Susanne Woods. At the time, I did not know much about craft industry publishing and Susanne had recently founded her company, Lucky Spool. Her enthusiasm and organization impressed me and I was excited to see what would happen next for her company. Since our time together on the Governance Committee, I have watched Lucky Spool publish amazing books like Savor Each Stitch from Carolyn Friedlander and Anna Graham‘s Handmade Style. (You can find Susanne’s entire collection here.) I consider Susanne to be at the forefront of picking talented authors whose books are visually appealing and inspire me to try something new. When a Lucky Spool book is published, I can not wait to see it. I know it will be a treat![twocol_one][/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last][/twocol_one_last]
Since publishing was a mostly unknown area of the craft industry to me, I wanted to learn from Susanne. During our chat, we talk about how Lucky Spool produces each of their books, her perspective about the future of illustrated books, how she balances life and work and her latest project, Mighty Lucky. Hearing her value based decisions plus dedication to her craft and authors reinforced my commitment to being a part of this amazing community. I hope you enjoy our conversation!
