‘I, Sandi of Crafty Planner, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I endeavor to wear a handmade piece of clothing or an accessory each day for the duration of May 2016’
Even though I did not have a full closet of handmade garments last year, I wanted to see what I had made and challenge myself to wear them in public. I always worried that they would have to be “perfect”. However, just wearing the clothes made me feel more comfortable about my making process.
It also changed my perspective about clothing overall. Over the past year, I more carefully thought about the clothes I made and purchased. I have purchased fewer clothes, discovered nearby thrift stores for donation and purchases and started to mend clothes. (There is also an effort to make May about mending. Also a great goal!)
My goal for this year/May is to wear handmade clothes and accessories (including those handmade by other makers) and mend existing pieces.
Zoe does not recommend panic sewing to start Me Made May but I was aware of it this past month. So far, I have made a muslin of Pants no.1 by Sonya Philip, finished two muslins of the Dottie Frock pattern by Dottie Angel and washed (and washed and washed) linen from StoneMountain & Daughter Fabrics for a Three’s a Charm Jacket by Decades of Style. I hope to finish these pieces during May and post my progress. I can’t wait!!!
(P.S. If you need garment fabric or patterns, check out Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics. If you use coupon code: CRAFTYPLANNER, you will receive 15% off. I receive no commission off the coupon. Just wanted to share a great family owned business!)
