While paying for fabric, I spotted a charm pack of Aneela Hoey’s Little Apples fabric line. The whimsical illustrations along with perfect coordinating pieces were perfect for an upcoming baby quilt and made me anxiously await her next line. I have continued to follow Aneela’s career and was grateful to meet her at Quilt Market two years ago. She was warm and gracious while answering my questions about her trip to Houston, what projects she was working on and how I could support her in the future. In preparation for our podcast, I learned that Aneela is a trained textile designer who came back to fabric design after having her children. Her love for hand embrodiery (and book, Little Stitches) came from a childhood passion. The more I learned about Aneela, I couldn’t wait to share our conversation. We talk about her role in the e-zine Fat Quarterly, her thoughtful design process and why she decided to go public with her cancer diagnosis. I love how she doesn’t take anything for granted and seeing making things as being magic. There are so many pieces of wisdom in this episode. I hope you enjoy our conversation.
