One of the pivotal designers in my creative journey and within the quilt industry is Denyse Schmidt. Her relaxed approach to color, emphasis on making, not perfection, along with her modern take on “traditional” patterns and fabric inspire individual creative expression unconstrained by “quilt rules”. When Denyse agreed to be a guest on the podcast, she shared how she became a designer and her design process.
I was fortunate to meet her at Quilt Con and experience her thoughtful and engaging personality in person. When submitting my potential designers to profile for Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine, I knew I wanted to showcase Denyse’s work in a visual format. We talked about her book, Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration, her improv patchwork workshop exercise, teaching at the Modern Quilt Masters retreat and more.
You can find Issue 52 of Love Patchwork & Quilting online and coming soon to your local bookstore. (I found mine in Joann Fabrics this week!) The fastest way to receive your copy in the United States is to subscribe to the magazine here.
