Looking for a scrappy shamrock for Saint Patrick’s Day crafting? Here is a quick tutorial on how to make one block. (Photos will be forthcoming!)
Scrappy Shamrock Tutorial (8″ finished block)
9 -1.5″ low volume squares
12 -2.5″ green squares
2- 3.5″ low volume squares
1- 4.5″ green square
1) Sew four of the 2.5″ green squares into a four patch using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat this step until you have three four patch blocks.
2) Sew a 1.5″ low volume square to three corners of each four patch by sewing diagonally across the square. The corners without the low volume square attached becomes the center. (This creates a three sided snowball.) Carefully iron the squares.
3) Place the 3.5″ low volume square on right corner top side of the 4.5″ green square and sew diagonal from the upper left corner to lower right corner. Iron the square to the side. Place the second 3.5″ low volume square on the lower left bottom corner of the same green square and sew from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of the low volume square and fold out. This creates the stem.
This makes one block. Make four for a 16″ x 16″ wall hanging.
Please link back to this block if you post the block online. Otherwise, there is a #shamrockalong hashtag in the IG world!
