Modern Maples…jumbo sized! {w.i.p.}

It’s funny how one lone, but not forgotten, quilt block can lead to a pillow and even a big quilt!  For last week’s Finish it Friday,  I took my one modern maples block and made it into a Fall pillow.  Between the start of football season and the upcoming release of Fall coffee concoctions, I wanted to have a fresh seasonal addition to the house.

Well… that pillow reignited my desire for a Fall quilt. I kept envisioning watching football and drinking pumpkin spice coffee under a ginormous comfy quilt. (Okay, only for morning games.  For afternoon games, I think of boneless buffalo strips…) The tutorial for Modern Maples can be found here but I wanted my blocks to be my much much bigger.  Apparently, I was not the only one and the fantastic Darcy (also known as Modern Cozy!) figured out the dimensions for a 30″ finished block.  Thank you, Darcy.

Orange Maple

It started with this orange block made with Timeless Treasures Sketch in Latte and a Juliana Horner print I bought at Jo’Ann’s.

Then this Lizzy House designed combination got thrown in the mix:

Green Maple

Ignore the lack of ironing.  My cat decided to make a cat bed of my blocks RIGHT before picture time…

Along with one of my favorite fabrics designed by Anna Maria Horner from her Innocent Crush line:

Red Maple

There will be more but I’m waiting on background fabric.  I can’t wait to see how this quilt ends up.  Has one project ever led you to another one?

Linking up with Lee of Freshly Pieced for W.I.P. Wednesdays!

  1. I’ve been wanting to make a modern maples quilt too. I really like the idea of doing larger blocks. Yours is coming together nicely, can’t wait to see how it turns out!
