Momen + Store Tour

My dear friend Melinda flew to Los Angeles for a family Thanksgiving vacation.  We have been Instagram and email friends for quite awhile so I was excited at the chance to meet up with her.  When researching local fabric stores between San Diego and Whittier where she was staying, we decided upon Momen+ for a store tour… and shopping spree!  If I lived in Los Angeles, I would be there WAY too much.  It is the cutest, carefully curated Japanese fabric and notions store.

Be warned!  I decided to take pictures of pretty much the entire store because I wanted to share the awesomeness!
Okay, you have been warned.  Be prepared to see lots and lots and lots of pictures.  🙂
First of all, it is important to note that Momen + is in the middle of downtown Torrance and on a beautiful small tree lined street.  It really sets the stage for the beauty of their store.  (Plus there is an excellent bakery next store.  I would have to note the baked goods around!)
Here is how you can tell you have arrived!

One of the cutest window displays!
This is what you see when you look towards the back of the store.  I *might* have squealed when I walked in the front door… just maybe…

It is hard to know where to start!  After several minutes of “oohing” and “ahhing”, we headed out
To the left and behind the cash register is this amazing Hawaiian quilt.  (Have I told y’all that I took a quilting class when I was on my weddingmoon in Maui?  Yep!  My husband did not even blink when I signed up for the class.  And that is why I married him!!!)

There is a sashiko section along with a beautiful quilt.   Sashiko is a type of hand stitching popular in Japan.  You can find a basic tutorial here.

If you ever get a chance to visit Los Angeles, you should make this a mandatory stop!  The owners and employees are incredibly sweet.  They have small classes and are always ready to help.
So do you want to know what I bought!?!  I will post it tomorrow for Sunday Stash.  🙂
