Podcast Episode #48: Kelle Boyd of Ann Kelle Designs

Kelle Boyd on the Crafty Planner podcast

When I think of Ann Kelle Designs, I immediately smile. It is hard not to when you see these bright, simple and cheery patterns.

[one_half] This and That by Ann Kelle

I always thought anyone who could create such adorable designs must be a fun and playful person. After spending some time with Kelle Boyd, the designer behind Ann Kelle, I realized Kelle is all of those things and more. Kelle embodies her designs through her infectious laugh, perspective on the world and things she holds dear to her heart.
During our conversation, we explore how her childhood dreams of being a designer were revisited after a stressful work experience, how her parent’s love for music influenced her Beatbox fabric line and the story behind her Girlfriends series. Because we share a background in public policy and a desire to make things better in the world, I really enjoyed spending time with Kelle and getting a small glimpse of what excites her. I hope you enjoy our laughter and remember how your childhood dreams never really leave you.

If you would like to win a fat quarter bundle of Kelle’s Girlfriends fabric line, leave a comment below telling us what you would like to see Kelle draw for her next fabric line. I will keep the giveaway comments open until Monday, February 22nd.

  1. This being the very first podcast I have listened to (I don’t know how I found this but am so happy I did) I loved it. You are correct Kelle does seem as upbeat and as happy as her fabric looks. I would love to see the Girlfriends doing winter activities: building a snowman, skiing, hiking in the snow, ice skating, snowmobiling, building a snow fort, having a snowball fight, shoveling, etc. She may have to come to Wisconsin to see what real winter activities are:) I would also love to see something with cooking~ desserts, coffee , ice cream etc. I will be back to listen to more. Thanks for making me smile on a cold and blustery day.

  3. I really enjoyed listening to the podcast. You are correct about Kelle’s work making you smile. I would love to see a line of airplanes, cars, boats, and trucks for little boys. I make quilts for charities and I there aren’t as many boy prints available as there are girl prints.

  4. I can’t wait to listen! I love Kelle’s fabric! Ready Set Go is one of my favorite lines ever!
I have twin boys in preschool right now so we are all about the ABCs over here. I bet Kelle could come up with a super cute ABC panel/line. ?

  5. I’d LOVE to see an ocean themed line, pirates, and tone on tone hearts added to the Remix line. Although I will pretty much take anything Kelle does! I can’t wait for Sports Kids and her Halloween line this year! Yay!

  6. What a lovely collection of fabrics. I would love to see something for adults with rabbits on it. A lot of the bunny themed fabrics are quite child like x

  7. The prints are so cheery and filled with adventure. I think that Kelle should design the “Girlfriends” on a choose your own adventure, adventure. Since they are all awesome and unique , perhaps show us them on an adventure.

  8. Since I try to make the world a better place everyday by doing my small part to save our planet (from pollution), I would love to see a fabric line that would celebrate Earth Day! It would be awesome if it wasn’t a very literal interpretation, and I’m not a fan of text so not much of that either. Just some prints that celebrate our one and only home!

  9. Maybe a garden theme? I always love animals and water- so a lake/ ocean life theme would be cute! Something for my little guy would be fun too.

  10. I’d be crazy about seeing a collection of school supplies, like pencils, erasers, crayons, rulers, books, paper clips, etc. I’m a teacher and can think of a million things I could make for teacher gifts with this bundle if it were made!

  11. LOVE all of Kelle’s adorable designs!!! I think it would be fun to see an ocean themed collection…..jellyfish, pufferfish, dolphins, starfish….they would be so cute with her signature style added to it!

  12. I’d love to see children at work/play – pushing a wheelbarrow, digging with a shovel, rolling out biscuits, washing dishes (with lots of soap bubbles, of course), carrying firewood, sweeping with a tiny broom – these are all things my grandchildren do and they love doing them because my daughter makes it fun for them! Great giveaway. Just listening to the podcast now!
