Quilty Box December Edition: Natalie Barnes of Beyond the Reef

Today’s guest is Natalie Barnes of Beyond the Reef Patterns. Living in southern California, Natalie is a quilter, author of A Modern Twist, teacher, dog mom, pattern and fabric designer.

During our conversation, we start out by talking about her creative journey as an interior designer and how she started Beyond the Reef after a relaxing morning in Hawaii. Exploring her organic design process, we also talk about how she records her inspiration and how her book came into fruition.  Known for her inclusiveness in the industry, she talks about the decision to work with “her nine” to produce pieces for her Windham Fabrics Handmaker Quilt Market booth along with why going to Quilt Market is important to her and the industry. She discusses what she included in her Quilty Box along with gives suggestions for those considering a career in design. I hope you enjoy the episode.

  1. Your interview with Natalie Barnes was such a great surprise. Yes, I will definitely check out Quilty.com. Natalie has always inspired what I do. And she is one of the nicest, most generous crafters I’ve ever met.
