Melissa Fehr {Podcast Episode # 113}

Sewing clothes seems like a sewing challenge so thinking about making activewear takes that challenge and doubles down! Yet Melissa Fehr of Fehr Trade takes on challenges and conquers them. She learned to sew after moving to London from the United States. At the same time she was sewing, she was also running. Bored with pink and black women’s activewear, she decided to make her own. After needing a bone marrow transplant, Melissa kept sewing and running as soon as she could. Her inspirational story about pushing yourself, the power of learning different skills and the importance of self improvement.

  1. I love listening to your show every week. However this week the play button is weird just a link so I am having trouble getting on. I’m a quilt artist and am being inspired by modern quilting after listening to you

  3. Another great episode! I’m finally catching up after a weird month or two, and I just loved hearing Melissa talk about her designs and you about your epic legging muslins! I am not a runner OR interested in activewear, but now I’m suddenly thinking that I could finally find the exercise bra I’ve dreamed of since puberty – by sewing it myself. I toodled on over to Amazon and have pre-ordered her book – so excited!

      I wonder if the answer to most of those hard sought after clothes is making it ourselves. We just keep building our skills and we can accomplish it all. 🙂

  4. Dear Sandi,
    Thank you so much for the wonderful podcast. I‘d love to make my own active wear and have been too intimidated up to now…I ’ve just used my coverlock to repair old leggings. But now I am inspired to go further! I especially love how your podcasts are so informative- so many sewing podcasts these days seem to be more about the pocaster’s likes and dislikes and not really about sewing…(as in…“I’m so totally into yellow and so is my best friend!“) ..that I was feeling kind of disillusioned about listening to new ones (thread cult is by the way my favourite podcast!)…but having found yours…I am really looking forward to listening to the rest! Keep up the good work! Best, Giuls

    1. Giuls,

      Thank you for listening to the podcast and for the sweet compliments! Like you, I appreciate substantive conversations so I (hopefully!) structure the podcast to reflect that. I can’t wait to see what you make. I know that more activewear is on my “to make” list. 🙂

      Thanks again!
